April is National Donate Life Month.  What does this mean to our community?  One organ and tissue donor can help as many as 50 people. One donor can keep a family together. One donor can give a child his first real, play-filled summer or make it possible for a woman to raise her children.  Or let a couple grow old together.

• Almost 100,000 men, women and children currently need life-saving organ transplants.
• Every 12 minutes another name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list.
• An average of 18 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant.

I urge you all to consider the thousands of lives that organ and tissue donors have saved and to consider committing to become a donor. To learn more about organ and tissue donation visit www.donatelife.net. You may save somebody’s life someday. You may give as many as 50 people a chance to stop waiting and start living again. What greater legacy can any of us leave behind?

How do you feel about organ and tissue donation? Chances are you think it’s a natural, appropriate and giving thing to do and have no real objections to the idea. If so, you’re one of the nine out of 10 Americans who supports organ and tissue donation. But are you also part of the 66 percent that doesn’t know what steps are actually required to commit to organ, eye or tissue donation? Visit
http://www.donatelife.net/ and select your state to learn how to make your wishes for giving the gift of life a reality.
